In the summer of 2025, Taichung City will host a grand comedic extravaganza guaranteed to bring endless laughter! The “Playful Arts Summer – Dopamine Club” series will take center stage at the Tun District Art Center on August 3, 9, and 10. Featuring some of Taiwan’s most popular comedy troupes—Haox Hsiao Troupe, Comedy Troupe, and Multi-X Theatre Company—this event promises three uproarious performances, each with its own distinct style. Early bird tickets are available at a 20% discount from now until June 30. In addition, a limited number of discounted seats are reserved for young audiences. Don’t miss this opportunity to relieve stress and laugh to your heart’s content!
According to the Taichung City Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau, this year’s event is themed “Dopamine Club,” aiming to spread joy and positive energy through laughter, while attracting audiences to experience the boundless charm of performing arts. Three leading comedy troupes have been invited to perform. Haox Hsiao Troupe, a group founded in Taichung in 2011, is known for its unpredictable and unconventional “howling” style and has garnered a loyal fan base. This year, they have been selected as a Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group for the first time. On August 3, they will join forces with Papaya, Tanuki Boy, Harusame, and MD In TAIWAN to present Comedy Showdown: Black and White Kitchen Scraps. Who will win and who will lose? Come witness it firsthand.
As part of the 2025 “Playful Arts Summer” series, the lineup continues on August 9 with Laughter Comes First, a comedy presented by Multi-X Theatre Company. This performance uniquely incorporates interactive paper ball throwing, inviting the audience to engage physically and playfully with the show—watching, laughing, and being part of it all at once. On August 10, in collaboration with popular influencer afunnywii, who will be the leading actor, Comedy Troupe will take the stage with The Master is Here, a fusion of absurdist humor and traditional crosstalk. In the show, a meticulously planned crosstalk, which was meant to be a grand and lively event, becomes an utter comedic chaos when the master fails to appear.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that, to encourage young people to engage with the arts, a limited number of “Youth Seats” will be available for each performance. Youth aged 13 to 22 may enjoy a 50% discount when using their Culture Points. Please note that eligible attendees must present valid identification in person for ticket verification at the entrance. Through this initiative, the bureau hopes to promote the culture of comedy and provide the public with the opportunity to experience the joy of performing arts in a lighthearted and engaging setting. Audiences from across the country are warmly invited to visit Taichung this summer and get tons of dopamine!
The Tun District Art Center remarked that the “2025 Playful Arts Summer – Dopamine Club” series is guaranteed to have audiences laughing so hard they’ll leave with six-pack abs! As the summer heat sets in, the public is warmly invited to step into the theatre and enjoy a delightful lineup of performances.
